I don’t know about you but when the days start getting noticeable longer and we experience a few sunny albeit cold days you can almost feel that Spring is upon us.
I love this time of year when the trees are getting greener, snowdrops and crocuses are flowering and I always start to think about spring cleaning, fresh starts and how nature might inspire and influence the home.
It is a great opportunity to to clean and clear cupboards, move furniture around for a new perspective and apply some fresh coats of paint where winter has taken its toll.
It can be invigorating to throw open the windows, let in the fresh air and start decluttering and reassess storage requirements, room layouts and how to present your home for the new season.
For me a good clear out and deep clean does wonders, changing the candles from heavy winter scents to more floral and fresh ones also makes a dramatic change to the home environment and my state of mind. And who doesn’t love the smell of freshly line dried linens as soon as the weather is kind to us.
Another small but powerful change is to rearrange displays and collections of homewares, it could be adding a natural spring like accent colour or switching heavy materialled cushions for lighter, brighter fabrics for example.
Another advantage at this time of year is being able to work on hobbies in the evenings, as well as the weekends, whilst there is still daylight and I always feel like I have achieved so much more.
As well as the home it can be a good time to think about yourself and how many New Years resolutions you have stuck to and if maybe new goals need to be put in place.
It is much easier for example to embark on a fitness or health regime when Spring is around the corner, the weather is getting better and making salads and healthy food choices seems easier when the sun is shining and you are not tucked up under a blanket watching television of an evening….that could just be me!?
If you haven’t already, now is a great time to start thinking about the new season and how it can inspire you and your home. Even something as simple as a vase of daffodils can lift the spirits.
Do you feel inspired at this time of year? Do you make seasonal changes around the home? I would love to hear you thoughts.
